In the last quarter, 14.6 million tourists spent the night in Dutch hotels, holiday parks, camping and other accommodations. Statistics Netherlands reported on Friday that this number was not that large in the third quarter. Particularly tourists from Germany and Belgium were able to find our country en masse again.
The largest growth was among tourists from the UK, 464,000 of whom came to our country. That was more than six times as much as in the previous year.
On the other hand, the number of Dutch people who went on holiday in their country decreased to 9.2 million. This is 8 percent less than in the third quarter of last year. But due to the increase in the number of foreign guests (5.4 million), last summer was still a record.
And 14.6 million tourists booked a total of 49.7 million overnight stays. The majority of tourists sleep in hotels, which received 8.6 million guests in the last quarter. Amsterdam in particular has been very popular again, especially with foreign tourists, who have doubled in number from last year.
Partly because of this, North Holland has been the province with the largest increase in tourists. There were also more visitors in Southern Holland and North Brabant. The provinces of Gelderland, Overijssel and Zeeland, which are popular with the Dutch, have seen a decrease in bookings.
