Software update: VMware Fusion 13.0.0 – Computer – Downloads

The Mac has built-in virtualization, but good luck with that:

😉

KVM and Qemu are not compact default, you will still need to download/install packages. Does it matter if you use one of the other virtualization programs? Sure KVM and Qemu are free, but try quickly (without searching on Google) to setup TPM 2.0 and/or secure boot/UEFI…

VMWare Fusion Player is free for personal use and paid for commercial use. How fast can you or your boss earn that from €135 / €180 simply by minimizing fiddling with virtual machines, virtual networks, etc.? And about every 13 months it’s €70 / €90 upgrade, currently you can upgrade to version 11, so you can throw it away once every 26 months if you don’t like the new version…

I bought VMware Workstation Pro 15.5 in June 2020, purchased the upgrade to v16 in September of that year, and now I’m going to v17 and can go another year or two. The costs all together are ~370€ (ex. VAT), which would translate to 90-120€ per year, which is well recouped considering I’ve built a lot of (different) VMs in the last 2.5 years! But if you can read and write with KVM/Quemu/etc. So the question is actually why you might use something else if your current solution can do what you want…

Personally, I’m not a fan of the free Hyper-V solution to install in Windows…

Edit: error correction.
