Six people were found dead yesterday in a luxury hotel room in Thailand, poisoned with the highly toxic substance cyanide. According to local police, traces of the odorless poison were found in all the tea cups.

According to Thai police, one of the six poisoned all the cups. This person is said to have borrowed a large sum of money, equivalent to more than half a million euros, from two of the other victims. Police have not yet said anything about the role of the other three.

The victims were four Vietnamese and one Vietnamese-American. The BBC reported that they had all stayed at the hotel in five different rooms, but had gathered in one room over the weekend for a large communal meal. The table was still largely on Monday when hotel staff found the bodies in the room.

There was also no sign of a struggle. Cyanide is odorless, invisible to most people, and dissolves well in liquids. The effect takes effect within a few minutes.

The meal was brought to the room by hotel staff and accepted by one of the six. The woman was alone in the room at the time. The woman, one of the two Americans, is said to have declined the offer of tea, saying she would make it herself.
