Pro-Russian commanders in Ukraine admitted on Monday that the Ukrainian army had made some successful breakthroughs in the southern Kherson region. Ukraine itself claims to be making successful progress eastward.
Kherson’s pro-Russian governor, Volodymyr Saldo, has acknowledged the hacks on Russian state television. “The situation is tense, let’s put it this way,” he said.
Another pro-Russian leader in Kherson, Kirill Strimosov, said the Ukrainian army had broken through a bit, but insisted the situation was “under control” for the Russians.
Ukraine itself recorded successes in Kherson. According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, these are breakthroughs during the occupation period in Arkhanelsky and Mirolyubivka. According to him, the Ukrainian army also recaptured lands in the eastern region of Luhansk. This means that Ukraine regained territory in all the regions annexed by Russia.
Russia on Friday formally annexed four occupied Ukrainian regions, including Kherson and Luhansk. Donetsk and Zaporizhzhya were also annexed by the Russians after holding mock referendums in the regions. According to Moscow, these indicate that all four regions wanted to belong to Russia. The results are not internationally recognized.
Meanwhile, Ukraine is seeing a rise in the east and south of the country. In addition to the successes in Kherson and Luhansk, the Ukrainians also took the place east of Lyman this weekend.
