An independent study will also be conducted on the higher sporting culture of the Dutch judo world. According to the Judo Association JBN, this is at its request after “recently receiving signals” regarding infringing behaviour, potential intimidation and the prevalence of a culture of fear.
This has raised concerns “regarding the social safety and performance climate within the Higher Sports and Talent Development Programme,” according to federation president Tessa Brewer.
These reports will not be so serious that immediate intervention is necessary. “Currently, there is not a single acute specific case,” Breuer says. Everyone who participates in our best sports gets the opportunity to tell their story, both positively and negatively. We take the signals very seriously and want an independent investigation into this matter.”
Judo and Jiu-Jitsu
Judo and Jujitsu are included in an ongoing and independent research among the best sports. This research is now in beta, including sports volleyball, ice hockey and cycling. This should be expanded to at least twenty sports later in the main study. Duration is approximately three years.
Outgoing Secretary of State Paul Blojes (Public Health and Sports) announced a large-scale investigation last fall. The reason was the huge report on abuse in gymnastics, which revealed that many gymnasts were victims of psychological and physical abuse by coaches. Last year, he also featured overtaking behavior at the Triathlon Union’s top sports center.
sports culture summit
Marjan Olvers, who is also involved in the investigation of abuse in gymnastics, describes the investigation as “interesting” that there is an association involved where the higher sports culture is already being discussed at the time of the investigation.”
The KNZB Swimming Association also announced an independent investigation in November into possible infringing behavior in the sport. Guust Jutte, the federation’s sports director, said at the time that there was no reason to believe swimming often involved contrary behaviour. “Our view is that she stays with the accidents, even though every single incident is too much.”
