In the next week and a half it will be decided which football club in Morocco can be called the best football club in the world. The FIFA Club World Cup kicks off tonight with a match between Egyptian club Al-Ahly and New Zealand’s Auckland City FC.
The opening match kicks off at 8pm at the Ibn Battuta Stadium in Tangier.
The Club World Cup involves the champions of FIFA’s six continental bodies, supplemented by one club from the host country. Al-Ahli are also welcomed as losing finalists, as Moroccans Wydad Casablanca won the African Champions League last year.
Champions League winners Real Madrid are represented by UEFA. Flamenco won the Copa Libertadores and represented Latin America.
Real Madrid and Flamengo will only play in the semi-finals on February 7 and 8. Their opponents from other continents compete in the first and second rounds for other places in the semi-finals. The final is Saturday 11 February.
The FIFA Club World Cup was held for the first time in 2000, which was won by Corinthians of Brazil. Since the second edition in 2005, it has been held annually. Last winner There was ChelseaIt defeated Palmeiras in the final.
