Passenger arrested at JA Bingel Airport who tried to smuggle a large sum of money out of the country – Dagblad Suriname

Passenger DW, who was about to fly abroad on Tuesday, May 16, was arrested during inspection work by authorities at JA Pengel International Airport. The man tried to smuggle a large sum of euros out of the country.

Two more suspects, QL and LZ, were arrested at the airport on May 14, as they also attempted to illegally export the currency from the country.

This year, 12 people have already been detained by the authorities at JA Pengel International Airport in Zanderij, all of whom attempted to smuggle foreign money out of Suriname. This group also includes the couple RR and SH who were caught on Tuesday 2 May with more than 23 times the allowed amount of money in euros. A third suspect is being sought in this case.

The Police is bringing to the attention of the community that under General Order No. 225 of August 31, 2022, the act of residents of Suriname and by residents of CARICOM Member States as referred to in Article 32(5) of the Amended Treaty of Chagaramas, is prohibited.
