On the way to the final against Sweden, Canada defeated the United States for the first time in 20 years at the Olympics

Canadian women’s football marbles knock out USA, Sweden waiting for final:

Canada’s last victory against the United States dates back to 2001. America has not lost against its little sister in 20 years. In the semifinals of the Games, the Canadian women tried to put an end to this series of defeats.

This is easier said than done because the United States is number one in women’s football. Defending world champions Netherlands were knocked out of the tournament in the quarterfinals after a penalty.

In the first half, both teams avoided risks. Halfway through the game, they ended in a goalless draw. After the break, American women clearly shifted gears. Opportunities for the United States accumulated, but not a single goal came out.

Fifteen minutes before the end, the American stars had their noses covered. Canadian Jesse Fleming (Chelsea) scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot.

Twenty years later, in 2016, Rio’s bronze medalists finally beat their American neighbors to qualify for the Olympic final. There they will compete against Sweden or Australia.

After a missed medal at the 2016 Rio Games, it was again a big disappointment for the United States.

And one goal was enough to win another semifinal. After the break, Friedolina Rolpo crossed over from Sweden to Australia. Five years ago, Sweden lost in the Olympic final against Germany.
