Sjoerd den Daas will be the new NOS correspondent for North America. In August he stops in Beijing and returns to the Netherlands for a few months. His first big job in the US was to help cover the US presidential election in November.
Sjoerd den Daas (37) has been a correspondent for China and the rest of East Asia for nine years, the last five of which were for NOS. He will be succeeded by Laura Van Megan. “In recent years I’ve been able to report with great joy and enthusiasm from a fascinating region. It hasn’t always been easy, but it’s rarely been boring, which is not the case in America at the moment,” says Den Das of his transition. “I consider it a great honor and privilege to be able to strengthen the experienced NOS team in Washington.”
Editor-in-Chief NOS News Giselle van Kahn: “In recent years, Sjord has taken our audience into the fabric of Chinese society. He created human stories, sometimes with courage and tenacity, while providing insight into larger connections in the world. He takes that knowledge and experience with him to the U.S., a country that — like China — is having a major impact on developments in the rest of the world.
