As a broker or senior scientist, you conduct research for clients – in particular – in the field of defense and security. You can do this from one of the DSS Unit’s 15 research groups, working with colleagues on multidisciplinary project teams. With your experience and expertise, you are a role model for your junior colleagues who guide you in their development. You usually work on four to five projects at the same time. It is also possible to fulfill the role of project leader. As a moderator or senior scientist, you are responsible for the quality of the research and know how to adjust the direction of the research when necessary. You monitor budget and deadlines closely and are an important sparring partner for clients and colleagues. You also take the lead in developing new methods and improving existing ones.

You put the essence of complex thinking and analytical work persuasively and comprehensively in the spotlight, for both clients and colleagues. You can also present your research results at conferences and publish them in peer-reviewed journals. This way you play an important role in the cognitive attitude of your research group. You are constantly building your network, inside and outside TNO, working with scholars from other research institutes and universities.

You have been involved in the world of science and technology innovations for quite some time and you feel completely at home there. At the same time, you know how to connect to the community. You use your analytical qualities and your ability to think abstractly to unravel the question behind the question and to develop creative solutions to it. You will then know how to convince clients, collaboration partners, and colleagues of its added value.

What else to bring:

• University Masters or PhD, for example, in one of the following disciplines: Physics, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics, Econometrics, Psychology, or Business (Technical).
• Experience or interest in defense and security.
