ROCHEM – The Tour de France Femmes is not yet what they had hoped for Sherine Van Anroy and her Trek-Segafredo teammates. On Friday, the top US team once again missed the Rosheim stage win.
Van Anroe (20) worked hard at the end of the 128km stage to bring back the leading group and gave Italy’s Elisa Balsamo the chance to race in a sprint. But it turns out the world champion had no legs at the finish line to keep Marianne Voss from winning the second stage. It came in fourth place.
After the executioner’s job, Van Unroj’s job was done. De Kapelse stayed off the grid in the final hundreds of meters and finished 53rd in exactly 30 seconds. In the general classification, she was ranked 31st in 6.36 minutes.
Trek-Segafredo will have to do a bit of the tour at the weekend, as there will be two challenging mountain stages. Sunday’s tour will likely be decided on the final ascent to La Super Planche des Belles Filles.
Uphill, Van Anrooij is the most important assistant to captain Elisa Longo Borghini, who is now fourth and would like to at least get on the podium. There may still be room for Zeelander – although that’s not an end in itself – to take the youth shirt. It also ranks fourth in this ranking.
