Since 2019, Horn is the proud host of Ironman 70.3 Westfriesland. The event offers athletes a fast, flat course surrounded by the stunning landscape of the Netherlands with its windmills, polders, and historic villages. This year, Horn will once again welcome home and international athletes, especially from Germany, the United Kingdom and Belgium. The event also features a variety of entertainment, including the official Iron Man merchandise store and dining partners such as Gatorade, Morton, and the 226ers.
Welcoming the athletes
Thibault Villard, Regional Director Southwest Europe for the IRONMAN Group, is excited: “We look forward to welcoming all athletes to Westfriesland, which is an ideal environment for triathlon racing. Eddie Bakker, Chairman of the Westfriesland Events Foundation, adds: “We are delighted to host Ironman 70.3 Westfriesland 2023. We are confident we will have another great event on the weekend of 25 June. The Ironman group has done a great job and together we will make Ironman 70.3 Westfriesland 2023 a huge success. With a revamped swimming, cycling and running course and all the elements of competition in one day, we believe we have succeeded in taking Ironman 70.3 Westfriesland to the next level for athletes, spectators and residents of Westfriesland.” .
different paths
Competitions start at 07:00 with a 1.9 km swimming course in Horn Ports. This is followed by an enhanced 90km cycle path through the beautiful surroundings of Westfriesland. The event ends with a 21.1km running track in the center of Horn.
Striker Sports Association
The athletics association SAV (Grootebroek) is also looking forward to IRONKIDS Westfriesland. The event provides members with the opportunity to test their physical fitness and sportsmanship while competing against each other in a fun way. Nina Wieners, SAV athlete participating for the third time. “It is a great pleasure for you to participate in a competition with the kids from the club,” says Nina.
iron kids
Julianapark in Hoorn will be set up for the IRONKIDS competition on Friday 23rd June from 15:00. Children of all ages will take part in the competitions taking place on the same track as the Ironman West Friesland athletes on Sunday 25 June.
