Final exams in Morocco: more women, more science
Next week, the final exams for secondary education will begin in Morocco. Nearly 500,000 students, most of them from general education, will take part in the tests that determine whether they can apply to higher education.
This was stated by National Education Minister Chakib Benmoussa before Parliament on Monday.
The Minister stressed the importance of final exams, which he described as “the culmination of the learning and performance journey” and “a starting point for higher education.” He said that his ministry is keen to ensure the credibility and reliability of final examinations at the national and international levels, which will facilitate the enrollment of successful students in the post-final examination courses.
Most students (73%) followed the scientific or artistic direction, while 26% chose the literary direction. Women make up the majority of exam candidates (54 percent).
The Minister referred to the measures taken by his ministry to make the exams a success, including providing 1,833 exam centres, which include approximately 28,000 halls in which the exams will be held. 765 topics have been prepared for regular and special sessions.
To combat fraud, the minister said that his ministry carried out awareness campaigns, and also coordinated with regional authorities, as well as with partners in the education system. In addition, his ministry has deployed new technologies to manage school leaving certificate and points data for successful candidates.
