Container cargo from Latin America does not have a PIN code

TrustChain is a collaboration between the business community and government agencies that aims to make port logistics more digitally resilient. One of the important elements is the safe and reliable collection of export and import containers in Dutch ports. In a closed logistics chain, where only known, authorized parties, companies have the right to collect a container from a terminal, securely communicate with each other digitally. Only a carrier authorized by the chain of trust can pre-announce its arrival at the terminal and then proceed there. The use of pin codes that can be misused will be stopped.

In recent months, shipping companies, together with their customers (shippers and forwarders) and carriers, have done a lot of work to release and collect import containers from Latin America in a new way. On the way to reaching the deadline, more and more parties are connected to the new chain of trust process gradually through Portbase's port community system. From March 31, issuance of PIN codes for collection of containers from this shipping area has been completely stopped.

The rollout of the trust chain continues
Focus on connecting the above shipping companies, Evergreen, HMM, Yang Ming (all three do not go from Latin America to Rotterdam) to their first 100 customers in the next phase of secure and reliable export and import containers through Chain of Trust. This also applies to Hapag-Lloyd (via Secure Container Release) and Marfret, which will add customers with cargo from Latin America due to their later participation. By participating in the trust chain of all major deep-sea shipping companies, the Port of Rotterdam has a uniform operating system for the safe and reliable release and collection of import containers without a PIN code.

After the first 100 customers, shipping companies will focus on handling import containers from all other shipping areas via the Chain of Trust in a yet-to-be-determined order.
