Claudia de Brij takes care of a Ukrainian mother and her son | Utrecht

Claudia de Brij and her wife Jessica Van Geel welcome Ukrainian refugees into their home in Utrecht. It talks about a mother and her son who suffer from cancer.

De Brig said this Thursday night at De Avondshow with Arjen Lubach. “I noticed you had special guests in the house,” Lubach said to de Brig. She replied: A boy from Ukraine has been living at home since Monday with his mother. He has cancer.”

The boy is one of the The 25 Ukrainian children who arrived last Monday with their loved ones at the Princess Maxima Pediatric Oncology Center in Utrecht. From now on they will be cured of their disease. Ukrainian families live with host families, who come from the Princess Maxima Center network.

De Brig says she’s been “in sort of a bubble” since the two joined. “It reminds you of once you had a baby. And then you think all the time, ‘Have you arranged this, you arranged that? We should go to the hospital tomorrow, and then I guess, do they really have salt in the attic – which we turned into some kind of apartment?’”

Du Brig also points out that communication is complex; This is mainly done via Google Translate. In addition, De Breij learns the Ukrainian language with the Duolingo language app.
