Chamber recognizes famine in Ukraine under Stalin’s rule as genocide | Policy

Several other parliaments preceded the Netherlands

The four government parties state in the proposal that the famine was planned and carried out by the then Soviet regime. Grain crops were cut and borders closed to prevent Ukrainians from fleeing.

A number of other parliaments, such as the Parliament of Flanders, France and the European Union, have already classified the Great Famine as genocide. This has happened especially in recent months in view of our 90th anniversary.

More than two years ago, a parliamentary majority asked the Cabinet to recognize the Armenian Genocide. This still has not happened.
