Calvin Stangs is on his way to America
Last Saturday Feyenoord played their first Eredivisie match of the season. At De Quyb, Rotterdam drew 1-1 against PhD candidate Willem II. Calvin Stangs did not appear. The club said earlier in the day that the attacker was unwell. Stengs doesn’t even know if he’ll play any more minutes for Feyenoord. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Dutchman has already passed a medical at Charlotte FC and will sign his contract today.
In North Carolina, Stengs became Charlotte FC’s highest paid player. The club was only founded in 2019 and has been a part of Major League Soccer since 2022. The club is currently sixth in the Eastern Conference with 37 points from 25 games. Home games are played at Bank of America Stadium, which holds approximately 38,000 spectators.
Beynoord’s willingness to participate in the transfer came as a surprise to many. Last year, Rotterdammers OGN bought Stengs from Nice for €6 million. Now it looks like he will leave the club again for 8 million euros. So Stengs continues to make 44 appearances for Feyenoord, in which he has scored 24 times and provided 24 assists. He was also Feyenoord’s top assist player last season.
Stengs made his professional football debut with AZ in 2017. In 2022 he moved to OGN Nice for €15 million. However, here things did not go as expected. He scored just once in 32 games. So the Dutchman chose to go on loan to Royal Antwerp FC in 2022 and here he breathed new life into his career. He became the national champion of Belgium and Royal Antwerp FC wanted to buy the Dutchman. This too seemed to happen until Feyenoord stopped it. After a year in Rotterdam, there is a good chance that his career will continue in America.
