This is where Bosch’s Help Connect emergency call solution comes into play. Help Connect app can access the sensors in the user’s smartphone and other connected devices and use an intelligent crash algorithm to automatically detect incidents. In the event of an emergency, the app alerts emergency services via the Help Connect emergency center and instantly indicates the scene of an accident.

Bosch currently offers Help Connect service in eleven European countries for users who use a German SIM card. Apart from Germany, it is available in Belgium, France, Italy, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Austria, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland. Two apps are now available for cyclists and motorcyclists using Help Connect: the Bosch eBike Systems COBI.Bike app and the calimoto motorcycle navigation app.

One solution – triple benefit
Help Connect combines automatic incident detection, emergency call functionality, and a personal emergency assistance system. For example, in Kalimoto, a fault algorithm evaluates smartphone sensor data about speed, acceleration, and rotation. Most of the commercially available smartphones today are equipped with such sensors. Applications must be activated during the flight and the device must be attached to the steering wheel. Help Connect works on all Android devices with version 6 or above and all iOS smartphones with version 11 or higher.
In the event of an accident, the solution uses a smartphone data connection to transfer the current location, severity of impact and, depending on the app, any health data stored to the Help Connect 24/7 Emergency Center. From the call center, specially trained emergency responders try to establish contact with the person involved in the accident. Communication takes place in German or English, even in other European countries. If the person does not respond and the sensor data indicates a dangerous fall, the emergency services will be alerted immediately. Family members and friends are also informed optionally. An emergency call can also be triggered manually at any time.
Bosch has also developed an accident detection system for motorcyclists, which is permanently installed in the vehicle. Here, Help Connect uses the built-in Bosch Motorcycle Stability Control (MSC) interface unit. Via Bluetooth, the app communicates with the corresponding partner and then sends the data to the Help Connect emergency center, just like a smartphone-based solution.
More partners – additional apps
Bosch wants to make life safer and integrates an emergency calling solution into as many connected products as possible – from its own or its partners’ products. “Help Connect is designed as an open IoT ecosystem, so various products with the correct sensor technology can become personal protective angels,” said Denner.
