Appointment of the head of the Environmental Impact Assessment Committee | news item

Professor Dr. will be Hans Mamas is the new chair of the Environmental Impact Assessment Committee. Cabinet approved the proposal of Minister of State Heijinen for Infrastructure and Water Management, Minister of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality and Oslo Minister of State for Education, Culture and Science for his appointment.

The Environmental Impact Assessment Committee, as an independent organization, advises on the content of EIAs. In addition to representing the Environmental Impact Assessment Committee, Hans Mommas (66) will also serve as chair of the agency’s advisory operations.

Hans Momas is the Director of the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency. The PBL previously announced that Mommaas will resign from his position on November 1, 2022. In addition, he is an Emeritus Professor of Regional Sustainability Governance at the Tilburg Institute of Regional Law and Governance (TiREG) at Tilburg University.

From 2004 to 2015, Hans Momas was the Scientific Director of the Telos Brabant Center for Sustainable Development. He was also a member of the VROM Board from 2005 to 2010.

Mr. Mommaas’ appointment will take effect on 1 November 2022.
