Kevin Paredes, a player on the U.S. Olympic soccer team, angered Moroccan fans with an off-the-cuff comment. Ahead of the quarterfinal match against Morocco, which ended in a crushing 4-0 victory for the Moroccans, Paredes told the press that he had never heard of the team.
“To be honest, I’ve never heard of this team and I don’t know anything about them, but the most important thing is that we win tomorrow,” Paredes said before the match. But the Atlas Lions thought differently and left the Americans with no chance.

Moroccan fans did not enjoy the American’s statement and took revenge on social media after the match. Pictures of Kevin Paredes crying, being comforted by Morocco captain Achraf Hakimi, went viral.
“Today my friend, you should remember that it was Morocco that scored four goals against your team,” one Moroccan fan wrote sarcastically. Another added: “Now that your team has conceded four goals, I’m sure you know that the scorers of the first, second, third and fourth goals are players from a Moroccan team called the Atlas Lions, the team you said you know.” Nothing.
