The Standing Committee on Education, Culture and Science received a technical briefing on Thursday, June 10 on the POcket Dashboard, an application on funding and quality in primary education.

The purpose of the POcket dashboard is to make public data about primary education more transparent and accessible to all. The idea behind the name “POcket”, with PO for Primary Education, is that members of parliament, principals, inspectors and government parties have the numbers “in their back pockets”.

The app uses existing and publicly available resources, such as the Education Executive Agency (DUO) and the Association of Dutch Municipalities (VNG).

Accountability Hack

Corine Bos and Bas van der Starre provided the app on behalf of developer Birch. The idea was won by Birch, an initiative of the Chamber of Deputies, the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Finance and Statistics of the Netherlands, the Dutch Court of Accounts and the Open State Foundation. This came on Friday, October 4, 2019 in the Central Hall of the House of Representatives. The winner also received a development budget of 20 thousand euros.
