The number of Dutch people immigrating to the UK has not been this low in twenty years, the Central Statistics Office reported on Friday. In 2019, 2,600 Dutch people immigrated to the United Kingdom. In 2015, there were still 4,300.
The number of Dutch people immigrating to the UK each year has fallen sharply since 2015.
Since that year, the number of Britons immigrating to the Netherlands has actually increased. 6,700 Britons moved to our country last year, an increase of 60 percent compared to 2015.
Meanwhile, more Britons have returned to the UK from the Netherlands. In 2019, that number rose by several hundred to more than three thousand.
More Britons have also immigrated to other countries within the European Union. The number of EU residents moving to the UK has fallen by a third since the start of 2016. The number of EU citizens returning from the UK to the country they immigrated from has doubled in the same period.
Other nationalities also exchange the UK with the Netherlands
More people of other nationalities are also moving from the UK to the Netherlands. Many Poles, Spaniards, Italians and French in particular are replacing the United Kingdom with our country. In addition to the Dutch, many Somalis also move from the Netherlands to the United Kingdom.
The number of people migrating to the UK from outside the EU has risen over the past five years. The number of people from that group who subsequently leave the country remains constant.
The United Kingdom is due to leave the European Union on Friday, after a majority of Britons voted to leave in a referendum held on June 23, 2016. The decline in the number of Dutch people migrating to the United Kingdom and vice versa may be linked to Brexit.
