Dutch hockey players have qualified for the semi-finals of the European Championship in Germany. National coach Jeroen Delmy’s team defeated Wales 8-1 in the last match of the group.

With this victory, the Dutch team, which had previously beaten France (6-0) and lost to Germany (0-3), ranked second in the group with 6 points. Germany (7 points) topped its group after defeating France 4-1. The Netherlands will meet Belgium in the semi-finals, which now leads Group A with 9 points.

Duco Telgenkamp showed his form again against Wales. The Dutch striker, who has already scored seven goals in his first eight international matches, scored twice within two minutes in the early stages of the first quarter. He opened the scoring with a wonderful pass and then doubled the score with a shot between the goalkeeper’s legs (2-0).

The Netherlands had more chances through, among others, Jeb Janssen and Thierry Brinkman, who also had a goal disallowed. However, it was Wales who scored against the odds through Stephen Kelly. Quinn Begin restored the lead before the end of the first half (3-1). Terrance Peters scored 4-1 at the start of the third quarter, after which Theis van Dam, Jorrit Krohn, Biggin and Brinkmann increased the score: 8-1.
