Lionel Messi’s US debut is a bit longer. Messi was scheduled to make his Major League Soccer debut for Inter Miami CF on August 20 against Charlotte FC. However, since the arrival of Messi, the Florida club has been very successful in the Leagues Cup, so the program had to be adjusted.
Under the leadership of the Argentine attacker, Inter Miami has reached the quarter-finals of the competition for clubs of the American and Mexican leagues. In four games, Messi has already scored seven goals, including two in Sunday’s thrilling game against FC Dallas (4-4), which was decided by penalties.
Inter Miami will face Charlotte FC in the quarterfinals tomorrow. The rivalry game will be moved on August 19 as one of the two clubs will play the final or third place match. According to MLS, Messi’s intended league debut will now take place on August 26 against the New York Red Bulls.
MLS started at the end of February and has now been suspended for a few weeks due to the League Cup. Inter Miami are bottom, but will be hoping to climb the table with Messi and the likes of Spain’s Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.
