Baseball player Aaron Judge has reached an agreement with the New York Yankees for the third most lucrative contract in MLB history. The American will sign a nine-year contract and will earn $360 million (more than €341 million) over that period.
The thirty-year-old Judge has played his entire professional career with the New York Yankees. He has been an active MLB record-breaker since 2016.
Judge will earn $40 million per season. In April, he rejected a seven-year, $213.5 million contract extension with the Yankees.
The record for the most-earning MLB contract of all time is held by Mike Trout. He signed a 12-year, $426.5 million contract with the Los Angeles Angels in 2019. Mookie Betts also signed a $365 million twelve-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, with a total value greater than Judge.
Last season, Judge hit 62 home runs. In doing so, he broke Roger Maris’ 61-year-old record in the American League, one of MLB’s two divisions. The record total in Major League Baseball in North America is Barry Bonds, who hit 73 home runs for the San Francisco Giants in 2001. The Giants play in the National League.
The New York Yankees reached the American League Final in the playoffs last season. In it, the team lost to the later MLB champion Houston Astros.
