Tim van Rijthoven failed to reach the second round of the ATP Championships in Antwerp. Lost to world number 55, Jaume Munnar: 6-4, 4-6, 6-7.
Van Reethoven tried to find a balance between attack and defense. He had varying degrees of success, but in an exciting tiebreak in the first set, he was still winning. In the second set, de Brabander’s errors increased and Munnar tied the score.
With an early break in the third set, Van Reethoven took the lead, but the serve at 5-3 went hopelessly wrong, he broke for love. He also made some mistakes in the decisive tiebreak: 4-7. Then Van Rethoven broke his racket out of frustration.
At the same time in the Lotto Arena, Jesper de Jong (22) lost in his second match at the highest level. Earlier this year he was given a wildcard at Rosmalen, in Antwerp he qualified through the qualifiers, as Van Rijthoven. But the Frenchman Constant Listien was very strong: 6-3, 6-4.
Later on Tuesday, Butch van de Zandscholp will play in the European Open, meeting Swiss Dominic Stryker. Van de Zandschulp finished seventh. Talon Groenbauer was the fourth Dutch player in the Belgian main league, already losing to Brett Dan Evans on Monday.
