Stock exchanges in New York will remain closed Monday for Labor Day. Labor Day is always celebrated in the United States after the first weekend in September. Trading will resume on Wall Street on Tuesday.

US President Joe Biden will take the holiday to visit unions in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. There he will make a strong case for trade unions, also with a view to the midterm elections to be held later this year. Biden is committed to maintaining a majority in Congress.

In particular, the president will deliver his message about organized work. It will also invite people to remain loyal to the Democratic Party above all else. Republicans are likely to take control of the House and possibly even the Senate in November. The opposition party usually wins seats in the first elections after a new president takes office.

Biden and his team hope that a string of recent successes, such as the massive climate plan being piloted through Congress, will secure a strong turnout among Democrats. In doing so, they are also targeting widespread voter anger over the Supreme Court’s previous repeal of a woman’s right to abortion.

Biden criticized the Republican MAGA movement ahead of the weekend. MAGA stands for Make America Great Again, a slogan that former President Donald Trump made for his nationalist and conservative Christian accusation. Biden warned of what he calls the “MAGA” movement of radical Republicans.
