In the men’s 200m freestyle final, Tom Dean swam four laps faster at the Tokyo Aquatics Center. The Briton was four hundred faster than compatriot Duncan Scott, who missed the gold medal and took the silver. 100m back (women)
A Dutch contribution to the women’s 100m backstroke final, as Keira Toussaint managed to put her heels over the trench for the gold medal race. The original Amstelveen mother, who has to rely on the underwater part, came out of the starting blocks like a comet, but unfortunately could not maintain this speed. It ranked seventh. 100m breaststroke (women)
There was a surprise winner in the 100m breaststroke. 17-year-old Lydia Jacobi of Anchorage, Alaska won the gold there, ahead of South Africa’s Tatiana Schoenmaker and American Lily King. Jacoby makes history with her gold medal. She is the first American female swimmer from Alaska. Another fun fact: There is only one 50-meter pool in the entire state of Alaska. In the men’s 100m backstroke, the Russians hit their shot. Evgeny Rylov was too strong for his compatriot Kliment Kolesnikov with a margin of only two hundred. Ryan Murphy of America took the bronze.
