Why the Cyclo-Cross World Championship is in Foytville: About America’s Jumbo

How does the World Cup end in one country, and especially in one part of that country, where they do not cycle much? Fayetteville is located in the southern state of Arkansas, one of the most conservative states in the country (in Ozarks, as you may know from the Netflix series), and one of the most conservative states in the country (we’ll get to that later).

In the United States, unlike the Netherlands and Europe, cycling is an elite sport. A Left Liberal As for the hipsters in the cities, so to speak – certainly a caricature, but there is a grain of truth in it.

The World Cup, now taking place in Fightville, involves three people. First, there are Sam Walton’s grandchildren, the Walton brothers (Stuart (40) and Tom (37), who bought his first store in Arkansas in 1945 and slowly expanded his empire into the Walmart chain.

Walmart is the largest supermarket chain in America, with the result that Tom and Stuart are swimming in money (billions!) But they did not. Instead of swimming in money, they cycle. Their investment company is a major shareholder in cycling clothing company Rafa, and has invested millions in cycling infrastructure in Arkansas in recent years. For example, there are the Oz Trails, a large mountain bike route through the Osorks.

But the brothers wanted more. A cyclocross world championship. That’s where Man enters the No. 3 story. Brooke Watts. 65 years old, from Colorado, a well-known name in the cross world for many years. He got the call if he wanted to see in Foytville about a possible World Cup.

He thought it was a crazy story that they thought they should put the bikes there and do something, but went to see anyway, let it go Cycling flash Know. He was excited by the environment, but even more excited when he learned that the Walton brothers were behind the call: almost endless money. If you want to organize such an event and force UCI, you really need money.

Watts worked his way up, and it happened. The World Cup is almost over. But the final twist of the story is that it is without Watts. He resigned as head of the organization last spring due to political problems.

The Republican majority in the state Senate became the first state to ban hormone therapy for young transgender people. There was a buzz in the liberal cycling community (which also created the Dutch news) and the Watts organization (read: Waltons) called for themselves to be publicly excluded from the enacted law. They refused and Watts made his decision.

Later, Tom Walton publicly supported the veto used by the governor of Arkansas (Republic) on the law, but within that time Watts was damaged. He was – paradoxically – in front of television in Europe. Friday evening already, in the mixed relay, because that discipline is Watts’ idea.
