US resumes aid to Palestinians after Trump

President Joe Biden’s US administration resumes aid to Palestinians detained under former President Donald Trump. It starts with about $ 150 million for aid, which is often donated to the UN. The system is powered by UNWRA.

It is investing $ 75 million in economic aid and $ 10 million in development cooperation, especially to promote peace.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said in a statement that US aid to the Palestinian people is important for US interests and values. The aid is aimed at restoring relations between the United States and the Palestinians. The Palestinians felt that they were being severely trampled by Trump in favor of Israel, and Biden had already announced that he would partially change the policies of his predecessors.

The new Biden administration has already pledged hundreds of millions of dollars in resumption of economic and humanitarian aid and sought to reopen the Palestinian diplomatic mission in Washington. Negotiations are also focusing on what could be called a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The White House is waiting for the end of last month’s Israeli elections. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did not get a government majority. Palestinian elections will also take place later this year.

In 2017, a further $ 365 million flowed from the United States to UNWRA. By the end of March, $ 15 million had already been announced for the fight against the Corona in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
