US, Netherlands talk about ban on export of ASML chip machines to China | Economie

The Netherlands and the United States are expected to discuss restrictions on the supply of chip machines by ASML to China this month. Bloomberg reported this based on conversations with insiders.

With this, the US wants to increase pressure on the Netherlands to stop exports to China from ASML, although sources do not expect an agreement to be reached. For example, the Netherlands has previously expressed concerns about a strict US export ban against China, particularly in the area of chip technology. ASML is an important player in this field.

ASML is currently prohibited from selling its more advanced EUV hardware to China. These matters are becoming increasingly important to the Feldhoven Company. For example, ASML received orders worth 8.9 billion euros in the third quarter. Of this amount, 3.8 billion euros consisted of orders for EUV devices.

Consultation

Sales of other products may continue, which means ASML’s supply is less restricted than that of US competitors. According to an insider, the conversation will be part of an ongoing consultation between the United States and the Netherlands, which also discusses other topics related to technology cooperation between the two countries.

Sources told Bloomberg earlier that America would hold talks with the European Union to take joint measures on sanctions against China.
