Thousands of Starbucks coffee chain workers in the United States have gone on strike. The Starbucks labor union reported this to CNBC Business Channel. According to the syndicate, pride decorations are not allowed to be hung in dozens of cafes.
The union said about 3,500 baristas from more than 150 Starbucks stores were taking part in the strike. The first work should start in Seattle on Friday and then work will also stop next week. The union says Starbucks stores in at least 22 US states are banning their employees from putting up decorations for Pride Month. Other Starbucks branches are still voting on the measures, according to the union.
Starbucks says there are no changes to its store’s decor policy and there are no corporate bans on Pride decorations. The company says local store managers can decide for themselves. Starbucks also says it has always unconditionally supported the LGBTIQ+ community. In total, Starbucks has approximately 16,000 locations in the United States, some owned and others owned by franchisees.
