Jakarta: The number of Indonesian students studying in the United States continues to increase. The annual Open Doors report released by the Institute of International Education showed that the number of Indonesian students studying in the United States this year reached 8,467, or a 5.8 percent increase over last year.
This increase is due to a 22 percent increase in the number of Indonesian citizens receiving graduate programs in the United States and a 16 percent increase in those receiving post-graduate work training through the OPT program.
The report also shows that the number of US citizens studying in Indonesia has increased from 10 to 142. It reflects the return to normalcy for Americans after the end of the Covid-19 restrictions that have affected the movement of students around the world.
This increase reflects increased cooperation between the Indonesian and US governments on education programs. Including the creation of an Education Memorandum of Understanding signed by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Minister of Education and Culture Nadiam Maharim in December 2021.
