Not only sports stadiums at Sportpark Strandvliet are back. According to the municipality, it will be possible to ski, play basketball, freerun, bmx, run and dance in the parking garage.
Locals can speak to the municipality starting Monday to consider the multi-functional sports park. The name may also be discussed (tentatively: Rooftop Sports Park).
“We want Amsterdamers to feel at home here,” says Alderman Simone Kukenheim (sport) of a place twice the size of Dam Square. “We are calling on everyone to help think about modifications that will make it more enjoyable, safer or more accessible, so that this special place will soon be used by the largest possible number of Amsterdam residents.”
Athletes will be welcomed soon, but sports clubs and fans are also encouraged to come to Strandvliet.
Kockenheim: “The sport at over 10 meters high with a view of the Johan Cruyff Arena is of course truly unique. Precisely because so many different forms of sport and exercise come together, this will be the place to meet in the field of sports and games.”
