President Santoki expressed his appreciation to Apache (APA Suriname Corporation LDC) for its work in the country and the opening of its new office here. The Head of State paid his respects on Saturday, May 28, 2022 during a visit to the company’s drilling ship in the coastal waters of Suriname. This visit took place at the previous invitation of Clay Breech (Executive Vice President of Operations at Apache) and Willem Bloom, Apache Country Manager.
The Head of State of Suriname was the guest of honor at the APA Suriname Corporation’s open house on March 29 this year, where he was invited by Bretches and Bloem officials to visit the rig, so that the drilling activities could be viewed up close. The open house was part of the opening of the renovated Apache office as well as the opening of activities in the Rasper-1 hole in Block 53. In addition to President Santoji, US Ambassador Karen Williams was also flown by helicopter to the site.

The head of state indicated that the company’s perseverance led to the first discovery in the marine area of Suriname. President Santoji emphasized the importance of a good partnership which he believes is essential to optimal success. He indicated that the Government of Suriname is ready to play its role by supporting the activities of Apache Corporation within the rules of the Government of Suriname.
“Any obstacles you encounter in dealing with the government can pass me by, and I will make sure to take the appropriate corrective measures,” the head of state said.
He also spoke about the importance of local content and appealed to Apache to work from Suriname as much as possible. The head of state added that he was aware that the coastal base of the Rasper-1 well is located in Block 53 in Trinidad. However, he confirmed that Total Energy and Shell had decided to establish its coastal bases in Suriname.
President Santoki stressed that local content is very important to the government as it will help in strengthening and diversifying the economy. He said the government is eagerly awaiting Apache’s first final investment decision in Block 58, as the company also has a keen interest in this area. President Santogi wished Apache every success in its operations at the Rasper-1 well in Block 53.
