Marianne Voss also won the second stage of the Scandinavian Tour. The 35-year-old cyclist from Jumbo-Visma outlasted Sweden’s Emilia Fahlin and Barbara Guarischi from Italy in the 153.8 km race between Orust and Strömstad in Sweden.
Voss won the first stage in Denmark on Tuesday. She cemented the top spot in the general classification with her second consecutive win. Voss has a 14 second lead over American Megan Gastrap and Vahlin.
The Scandinavia Tour is a continuation of the Norway Tour, which has been running since 2014. Annemiek van Vleuten won the last edition last year. The stage race now consists of six stages. Four more will follow in Norway after horseback riding in Denmark and Sweden.
According to Voss, a sprint was difficult. “We came into town very quickly and followed a very technical final with a lot of corner kicks,” she said. Trek-Segafredo jumped really well with a kilometer to go the distance, and I got a gap. At first I hesitated a little but then I knew I had to go. Emilia passed very quickly so I tried to catch up. It was pretty close but I’m glad I won.”
