The majority of Utrecht city council members think it is good to give the municipality the first right to buy large plots of land in the Merwedekanaalzone. The city council proposal was passed at the council meeting Thursday night.
DUIC Wrote by Detailed plan To the municipality of Utrecht, through which they want to combat land speculation and closely monitor developments in the region.
In short, this means that if the owners of plots of land in the area between Eendrachtlaan, Vliegend Hertlaan, Winthontlaan and Merwedekanaal want to sell their plots, they must first show this to the municipality of Utrecht. This gives them the first right to buy and leaves other potential buyers to check out for now.
Affordable housing
The area in Merwedekanaalzone will be renovated on a large scale in the future, and a lot of money can be earned by switching from a business park to a residential area. The municipality wants to increase the chance of obtaining affordable housing by treating the first right-to-buy horse. By the way, many landowners expressed their dissatisfaction with the intention of the municipality.
On Thursday evening, the municipality’s intention was discussed in the city council and the majority of politicians understand the plan. That is why the proposal was adopted and the municipality of Utrecht has the right to the first purchase for a period of three years. CDA, EenUtrecht, PVV and VVD voted against. These parties, backed by DENK and Utrecht Solidair, still proposed keeping the land owned by the family business GEPU – which is already negotiating with a housing developer – out of the plan, but no majority was in favor of doing so.
