Teen Coco Gauff swings by as she is the youngest Grand Slam finalist since Maria Sharapova | sports
Coco Gauff impressively reached the Roland Garros final. The only eighteen-year-old American left little Italian Martina Trevisan in the semi-finals. She won 6-3 6-1.
This makes Gauff the youngest Grand Slam finalist in eighteen years. In 2004 Maria Sharapova was only 17 years old when she reached the final fight at Wimbledon and also managed to win it.
Trevisan put up a good resistance in the first set and was able to keep up with Gauff until 3-3. After that, the Italian, who reached the last four in the Grand Slam for the first time, began to make more and more mistakes.
Her American opponent, ranked 18th on the rankings list, began playing more and more convincingly after a tense start. When she handed Gauff 3-1 in the second set after a 14-minute game, she took control. After an hour and a half she ended it with a love game.
“I think I’m a bit shocked. I don’t know what to say,” Gauff said after the match. Of course, it’s great to be in the Grand Slam final, but there’s a lot going on in the world now, especially in the US, and I don’t think it’s worth worrying about. “I’m going to the party like everyone else,” said the teenager.

In the final, Goff will face Iga Swiatek on Saturday. The world number one was too strong for Daria Kasatkina, who had not lost a set in Paris before the duel with Swiatek: 6-2 6-1.
The 21-year-old Swiatek also lost quite a few sets. Only in her match against Qinwen Zheng did she concede a set, moreover she won all her matches 2-0. In the semi-finals against Kasatkina, losing again seemed not an option for the Polish winner of 2020. In the first set, she immediately broke her Russian opponent, not giving up this lead. The 25-year-old Kasatkina, who finished 20th in Paris, broke once, but Swiatek overtook him on all fronts.
Swiatek continued at the same pace in the second set. With a strong comeback and dominant play in the long rally, the Polish tennis star set the pace and didn’t let Kasatkina dominate Court Philippe Chatrier. Soon this resulted in a break and a big lead, after which Kasatkina began to make unnecessary mistakes with a usually strong forehand. Her first semi-final ended in just over an hour.
Swiatek knocked Kasatkina out of the ring with 22 winners. “I am grateful for the support of the fans. It surprises me how excited they are to receive me,” Swiatek, who can win her sixth straight championship in Paris, said. “I try to treat every match the same way, because when I think my most important match of the year is coming up I get nervous.”
Swiatek predicted this win for her 34th straight win. Only Venus Williams managed to achieve this in the WTA.
