Football: Leicester City defender Morgan retires from football

12.39 pm: Leicester City defender Wes Morgan is ending his football career after this season. Leicester also bid farewell to midfielder Matte James (29) and defender Christian Fox (35), who has also served the club for years.

The 37-year-old, who has played more than 750 games in total, was the captain of the team that surprisingly won the English National Championship in 2016. He played for more than nine years with Leicester, who recently won the FA Cup.

Leicester are fifth in the Premier League and are due to play at home against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. The opponents Liverpool, who have the same number of points but with a better goal difference, are playing at home against Crystal Palace. The top four teams qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

Tennis: Halep joins Roland Garros

11.25 am: Simona Halep has signed with Roland Garros due to a calf injury, which will start in nine days. The 29-year-old Romanian star, ranked No. 3 in the world, won the championship in Paris in 2018.

“With the pain in my heart, I withdrew from Roland Garros,” Halep wrote in a statement. “Unfortunately, the cleft in my left leg is taking longer to heal and there is not enough time. To withdraw from a major tournament goes against all my aspirations as an athlete, but that is the only decision I can make.

Football: Colombia reorganizes the South American Cup

9.48 am: The Copa America will not be played in Colombia next month. The South American Football Association, CONMEBOL, decided to transfer the matches to be played in the country. Colombia will organize the final tournament with Argentina.

“CONMEBOL confirms that the 2021 American Cup will continue and will continue one of these days regarding the location of the matches that will be held in Colombia,” the federation said in a statement.

Colombia has been unstable for some time now. National anti-government protests, which began in late April, have claimed at least 15 lives in Colombia. Colombia submitted a request to CONMEBOL to move the tournament to the end of the year, but this request was rejected. Earlier this week, the Argentines offered to stage the tournament themselves.

The tournament was to be held in two countries for the first time in its 105-year history. Initially, fifteen matches were planned in Colombia, including the final in Barranquilla.

The South American soccer tournament begins in mid-June and lasts for a month. The opening match is on June 13th in Buenos Aires, the final battle on July 11th. The tournament includes ten participants divided into two groups. Brazil won the last edition.
