SpaceX has asked the US Department of Defense to pay for Starlink Internet stations in Ukraine. Elon Musk says it can no longer afford the expenses, reports CNN.

To date, about twenty thousand Starlink stations have been delivered to Ukraine. A satellite connection can be used to communicate when mobile phone networks and Internet connections fail due to the invasion of Russia.

Last week, Musk tweeted that the SpaceX operation already had $80 million cost. This amount is expected to exceed $100 million by the end of the year.

CNN It holds a message SpaceX sent to the Pentagon last month. In it, the company wrote that it could no longer fund the operation.

SpaceX also asked the Pentagon in the letter to fund the use of Starlink by the Ukrainian government and military. According to Musk, the remaining cost this year will be $120 million. It could reach $400 million in the next 12 months.

“We are not in a position to continue donating stations to Ukraine, or funding existing stations indefinitely,” a SpaceX executive said in the letter.
