Seven students died when they fell from the balcony of the University of Bolivia building | Abroad

The accident happened at Alto University on Tuesday. On the fourth floor, a crowd of students gathered in front of the lecture hall.

A video shows students huddling together on the El Alto Public University building when the balcony barricade suddenly collapsed.

It’s so busy that people are pushing and pulling. A young woman pushes another before the handrail collapses. A female student can still cling to one of her fellow students. Bolivian police, Johnny Aguilera Montinos, said the woman would be questioned as part of the investigation.

“We regret the tragedy that occurred in the Public University of Alto (UPEA), in which several people were killed and injured,” Bolivian President Luis Ars wrote on Twitter. “Our deepest condolences to the El Alto people and the affected families.”

Bolivia’s Interior Minister, Eduardo del Castillo, is investigating the tragic accident.
