Russian ice hockey player Ivan Fedotov arrested in Russia a month after being extradited to US: ‘He should join the army’

Russian ice hockey player Ivan Fedotov has been arrested and taken to a Russian military recruitment camp. The 25-year-old goalkeeper signed a contract with American Philadelphia Flyers a month ago, thus ‘betraying’ his home country.

The Russians weren’t too happy about that. Fedotov, who won a silver medal for his country at the last Winter Games in Beijing, is suspected of skipping military service. There is now even a possibility that the Russian could be sent to Ukraine.

Fedotov led his club CSKA Moscow to the national title last year. Now the Central Sports Club of the Army (CSKA) sometimes prefers to have close ties with the military. Playing for the club is seen as military service, so you can’t leave like Fedodo.
