Dutchman Rinus van Calmuth, known in the United States as VeeKay, finished his third season in the IndyCar series in 12th place in the standings. In 2020, it ranked 14th, and last year VeeKay also ranked 12th.
De Hoofdürber, who extended his contract with Ed Carpenter’s team for several years last month, finished 14th on his 22nd birthday after 95 laps at Laguna Seca. The victory went to the Spaniard Alex Ballou ahead of Joseph Newgarden of the United States. Third place was enough for Power to become champion, just as in 2014.
The Australian led by 16 points over teammate Newgarden (560 to 544 points). He succeeds Balu as the champion of the American racing category.
Power has only won one race this year, but she won the title by always finishing the race ahead. The Australian started from first place for the 68th time in Monterrey. In doing so, he surpassed the record of illustrious American Mario Andretti, who took first place in the IndyCar series 67 times.
