Dutch Water Polster lost the World Cup against the United States
The Dutch water polo players lost to the United States in the World Cup Budapest: 11-7. Excellent resistance was offered, but the excess of American experience was the decisive factor.
The orange team started the World Cup tournament strongly on Sunday by defeating Argentina with big numbers (29-6). In that match, Holland was superior. Then all the players managed to hit the target.
It was already clear that the game against the United States would have a completely different path. The Americans have dominated women’s water polo for some time: they have won gold at the last three World Cups and the last three Olympic Games.
In the bathroom in Debrecen, Holland were strong at handling the ball at times in the opening stage, but in the crucial moments something went wrong. Because the United States has sharp and excellent shots Ashley Johnson on goal, the first quarter went to America.
A tight American defense forced Orange to take increasingly impossible shooting positions in Part Two. Laura Arts held Orange in the race with a number of saves and the tension became in the final quarter at 7-9. Then the Americans got back on track and finished it off in a routine fashion.
On Friday, the Orange team will play their third and final group stage match against South Africa. This country has already faced the United States very hard and also lost to Argentina. The Netherlands is now second in the group.
