Netanyahu’s opponents to form a new government in Israel: “The fraud of the century” | abroad

Israeli media reported that the 49-year-old Bennett, a former Netanyahu party member, and former Defense Minister Lapid will be exempting each other as prime minister. The first two years are dedicated to Bennett, who said on television Sunday that it was now clear that a completely right-wing government was currently impossible. The only option, then, is new elections, the fifth in two years, or a national unity government with Lapid.

Netanyahu, 71, of the right-wing Likud party, has been prime minister for a long time and formed a series of coalitions, especially with the Orthodox Jewish parties. He was prime minister from 1996 to 1999 and since 2009. No Israeli prime minister has been prime minister for a long time. His position has come under pressure, among other things, because Netanyahu is involved in a number of corruption cases.

Fragmented policies

According to the law, Israelis must go to the polls again if a coalition government does not take off before Thursday. The last elections were held on March 23. Then Lapid’s reformist Future Party became the second party in the country after Likud. But in fragmented politics, that is only seventeen of the 120 seats in Parliament.

Therefore, Lapid concluded agreements with the Labor Party and the left-liberal and nationalist Meretz party, Yisrael Beiteinu (Yisrael Anas Toys). He hopes he can keep the minority government afloat with the support of a series of parties. It is also believed that the ten Arab parliamentarians will be willing to grant tolerance support under certain circumstances.

‘Scam of the century’

According to the media, in cooperation with Bennett, a ministerial agreement was reached on Monday and Israel could continue to form a new fragile coalition before the deadline (Wednesday 11 pm Dutch time) and marginalize Netanyahu “ forever. ” The victim criticized Bennett’s defection on television, accusing him of “committing the fraud of the century.” Netanyahu noted that Bennett had publicly promised voters not to engage with Lapid and added that government cooperation on the right was still possible.
