More gold for Suriname in the South American Weightlifting Championships – Suriname Herald

“The Suriname team did not come to play,” the Suriname Powerlifting Federation (SPF) enthusiastically confirms. Yesterday, more medals were won during the 2022 South American Weightlifting and Punch Press Championships. After Abigail Heng won the gold the previous day in the -57kg junior weight class in the deadlift division, Omar Jones and Randall Carriodamgeo followed suit.

Both men also took gold medals at the Arena Uriarbe in Caçador, Santa Catarina (Brazil). Johns won his first prize in the -74kg weight class in the bench press division, while Kariodimedjo was the best twice: he won gold in the bench press (3 lifts) and only the bench parts. In addition to his gold medal, Jones also earned a bronze medal in the bench division overall.

Suriname’s counter now stands at six medals. Besides Heng, Jones and Kariodemjo, Tsuen Amatredjo has also won awards. On the first day of the tournament, she won the silver medal in the weight category -52 kg in the lethal part.

Suriname almost dropped out of the tournament. Only Lyndon Emersingh hasn’t taken any action yet. Today he participates in the open weight category 93 kilograms.

This is the first time ever that Suriname has competed in the South American Weightlifting and Bench Championships. The tournament is also approved by the International Weightlifting Federation (IPF).
