Maria Scari qualifies for the WTA semi-finals and Demi Shores wins first | sports

Greek tennis star Maria Skari secured a place in the semi-finals of the WTA Finals in Fort Worth, USA. The world number 5 seed won her second group match at the end of the year 6-2 6-4 against Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus. Scary plays another match in her group, but she can no longer miss the position in the round of four.

Anas Jaber recovered from his defeat in his first match. The Tunisian world number two settled in three sets with American Jessica Pegula 1-6, 6-3, 6-3. So Jaber keeps the chance to qualify for the semi-finals, but then she has to win her third match against Scary.

Demi Shores achieved her first championship win in doubles. She and her American partner Desirae Krawczyk won three sets against American pair Coco Gauff and Pegula: 3-6 6-0 10-5. So Schurz is still in the race for a semi-final spot. The 29-year-old, ranked 21 in the world, is already in the WTA Finals for the fourth time.
