To eliminate the appearance of bias, the US attorney has appointed a special counsel to investigate classified documents found in Joe Biden’s personal possessions. ‘A unique moment,’ says American correspondent John Postma.

This week it was announced that classified documents had been found in Biden’s former private office and his own home in Washington. According to Postma, this is a serious investigation with political risks for Biden. “This prosecutor is an independent, self-employed investigator who may be appointed if a conflict of interest or political connection arises. This prosecutor is going to investigate everything he finds, and it may be quite an investigation.

One such attorney is currently examining documents found at former President Donald Trump’s home. “This is a unique moment in American history when both a current and former president is being investigated by such a special prosecutor,” Postma said. Attorney Robert Hurr, who served in the Justice Department during Donald Trump’s presidency (2017-2021), is the special counsel assigned to the case.

New classified documents were discovered in the garage of Biden’s private home in Wilmington. It’s unclear how many documents will be involved, but Postma says it makes the whole thing even more painful.

The documents were found in the same garage where Biden also kept his classic Corvette sports car. “The garage is locked and people know I take classified documents seriously,” the president said in response to reporters’ questions. “It’s typical Biden, a bit clumsy and it shows that this scandal is at the expense of his credibility,” Postma says.

Postma thinks news of the classified documents will partially overshadow Rutte and Hoekstra’s visit to the White House. ‘This will also be in the news next week and journalists will be asking about it.’
