A fresh start in the new year! Will you be our new attorney in Woo’s objection cases?
The NWO wants to strengthen the legal department with an administrative attorney who handles objection files and applications under the Open Government Act.
If it were you, you would do the following:
- Acting as a secretary in objection cases, supporting the external objection committee and directing objection proceedings in the right direction;
- Support policy officials in drafting defenses and preparing for hearings;
- handle Woo requests, including by communicating with applicants and NWO colleagues;
- Advise on various administrative law questions from fellows.
You are of course a Law Graduate (WO) and:
- They have good knowledge of administrative law. Knowing about subsidy law in particular would be good;
- has experience in objection proceedings, at least as an objection secretary, but possibly also in a supporting role to the parties involved in those proceedings;
- They have experience handling Wob requests, or at least are familiar with Wob and Woo;
- are able to put yourself in the position of your own “customer”; You are accustomed to dealing with the interests of diverse stakeholders and provide solution-oriented advice.
This is where you come to work
The NWO Legal Department currently consists of 11 lawyers and 3 support positions, working in a hybrid form from offices in The Hague and Utrecht, but also from home. The team advises the Board, DT, Domains, governing bodies and operational departments in areas such as administrative law, subsidies law, WOO applications, public-private partnerships and intellectual property, state assistance and procurement law. It is a team full of professionals, who work closely together, interact informally and in which everyone has their own roles and areas of activity.

A challenging and socially relevant job in a motivated team with excellent working conditions in accordance with the Agreement on Collective Terms of Work for Research Institutions (Cao-OI (Netherlands) – WVOI).
This is a one-year employment contract, with the option to extend if it works properly. Salary depends on your knowledge and experience and for a full-time appointment between €4,064 and €5,590 gross per month (Scale 11 Collective Labor Agreements for Research Institutes, see www.wvoi.nl for payroll as of 1-1-2023). In addition, we offer you 8% vacation pay, 8.33% year-end bonus and a very generous vacation scheme. Furthermore, NWO is affiliated with ABP to provide pensions and we offer partially paid parental leave, a discount on our group health insurance and ample training opportunities. We operate a hybrid (partly in the office and partly at home), compensating for work from home, travel by public transportation and provide a laptop and a mobile phone from NWO.
