Kim Jong-un himself toured the world-famous Ri Chun-hee. Hand in hand, they walked into her new home. “It looks like a hotel,” she stammered when she saw her new home overlooking a river in the upscale neighborhood where North Korea’s elite live.
The woman has been retired since 2012, but has reappeared on screen during major events. With the luxury apartment, Kim wants to thank her for her services. “It is the treasure of the earth,” he said flatly.

Ri Chun Hee, 79, is North Korea’s most famous news anchor, and for good reason. She is known for her extravagant way of presenting “the news”, which sometimes caused quite a stir. For example, she jumped excitedly while testing atomic bombs, burst into tears when Kim’s grandfather died, and in a threatening voice announced threats against “enemies of North Korea.” They are also worn very conspicuously: always in colored dresses (usually pink, blue or green).

The present is a cunning agenda ploy by the North Korean dictator. North Korea celebrates Friday the Day of the Sun, Kim Il Sung’s birthday. He is the founder of the communist state and the grandfather of the current leader Kim Jong Un. Kim Il-sung died in 1994 and now holds the title of Eternal President of the Republic.
Kim Jong-un wants to present all the apartments in the complex as a gift to the people who “contributed” to building the country.
